Description: A medium-sized scombrid. Body robust, elongate and rounded. Two widely separated dorsal fins. Pectoral fins short, but reaching past vertical line from anterior margin of scaleless area above corselet. A large single-pointed process (interpelvic process) between pelvic fins. Body naked except for the specialized scales of the corselet, which is well developed and narrow in its posterior part. A strong central keel on each side of caudal fin base between two smaller keels. Caudal fin deeply forked. Bluish on the dorsal side, with a pattern of 15 or more narrow, oblique to nearly horizontal dark wavy lines in the scaleless area above the lateral line; belly white; pectoral and pelvic fins purple on the outside and black on the inner side.
Global Distribution: Atlantic, Indian and Western Central Pacific.
