Description: A small sparid fish. Body elongate and fusiform, slightly compressed. Large eyes, small oblique mouth, with very thin lips. Snout scaleless; cheeks scaly. Single dorsal fin. Pectoral fins relatively short. Caudal fin forked. Back greenish or bluish, sides silvery or golden, with 3 to 5 longitudinal golden lines, and a small dark spot at the pectoral axil. Lateral line dark; fins light.
Global Distribution: Eastern Atlantic from Norway to São Tomé e Príncipe islands; Mediterranean and Black Sea.
