Description: A pandalid shrimp, characterized by a large second abdominal segment which extends over both the first and third segments. The rostrum is very long, with 33 to 35 dorsal teeth. The abdomen is pale, with longitudinal red stripes. The ocular globes are black. Ovigerous females carry blue eggs under their abdomen.
Global Distribution: Western Atlantic, Eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Southeast Pacific. Tropical and subtropical.

Habitat: Demersal, on muddy bottoms.
Feeding habits: Feeds on euphausiids and other crustaceans, polychaetes, and fish remains.

Commercial interest: Commercial species. Although not yet commercially exploited in Madeira, fishing experiments revealed potential for commercial exploitation of this species, which presented a good CPUE in the 250 m depth stratum. Captured with semifloating shrimp traps.
Conservation status: Not evaluated.
