Description: A small to medium-sized scorpionfish, with a large spiny head. Single dorsal fin composed of spines and soft rays; with the second and/or third dorsal spines are elongated in adults. Pectoral fins large, fan-shaped. Body covered in small, rough scales. Body reddish interspersed with yellow on the head, opercle, above the pectoral fin base and on the flanks. Fins reddish, with spots on the soft dorsal, caudal, and pectoral fins.

Habitat: Bathydemersal. Occurs on hard bottoms. Abundant around islands.
