Description: A small deepwater shark with an extremely long, flat snout and huge iridescent green or yellow eyes. Rough skin covered in denticles. Moderately high first dorsal fin. Spines on both dorsal fins; the second much larger than the first. A distinct subcaudal keel on the underside of the caudal peduncle. Grey or brownish, both above and below; fins dusky. Smaller than the other species of Deania spp.
Global Distribution: Northwest Atlantic: North Carolina, USA. Eastern Atlantic: West Sahara to South Africa. Indian Ocean: Arabian Sea. Western Central Pacific: Philippines.
