Description: A medium-sized, deep-water morid fish. Has a chin barbel and large eyes. Body elongated, rounded in front of the abdomen, more laterally flattened behind. Two dorsal fins, the first short-based and triangular, the second long-based. Anal fin also long-based, but deeply indented in the middle, sometimes appearing as two. Pectoral fins relatively short. Pelvic fins small, with one ray somewhat elongated. Uniformly grey.

Habitat: Bathypelagic. Benthopelagic from the outer continental shelf and slope, most common between 500-800 m depth.
Feeding habits: Feeds on fishes, crustaceans, molluscs and other invertebrates as well as food of terrestrial origin, including garbage.
