Description: Small, fusiform, compressed body; large terminal mouth with small teeth; large eyes. Three rows of photophores on the ventral side of the body; also around the margin of the tongue. Single dorsal fin, plus a dorsal adipose fin above the end of the anal fin. Red on the sides, pale below, belly silvery white with bluish reflections.
Global Distribution: Atlantic (but not in the Mediterranean); Indo-West Pacific.
