Description: A deep-water fish. Body moderately elongate, slender, compressed. Large eyes. Lower jaw with a prominent ventrally pointed conical knob. Brownish coloured, covered in medium-sized scales; no scales on the head.

Habitat: Larvae and juveniles are mesopelagic and bathypelagic between 250 - 3182 m, whereas adults are benthopelagic from 820 - 1425 m.
